Sign and trade: It was just confirmed for the Boston Bruins and Mitch Marner ahead of free agency
Today there has been a lot of smoke around the league with free agency just around the corner.
Multiple signings and trades have taken place, and now
Mitch Marner was just involved in one as well.
According to NHL insider Elliotte Friedman, the Toronto Maple Leafs ended up signing Mitch Marner to a contract and then traded him to the Vegas Golden Knights.
Mitch Marner has been traded to Vegas
Chris Johnston revealed that Marner signed an eight-year, $12 million contract in part of a sign-and-trade:
Mitch Marner gets an eight-year contract carrying a $12M AAV with #VGK as part of the sign-and-trade with Toronto.
At this point, it's unclear what the return is for Marner.
If he did hit the open market, there is no doubt that Don Sweeney would have at least poked around at him.
Especially considering the Bruins are trying to retool and be better next year.
