The Boston Bruins will have to consider their next steps in the rebuild, and will they trade a piece of their "core" in David Pastrnak?
The Boston Bruins may have sold this latest turnover as a retool, but in reality, it's a rebuild, according to Jimmy Murphy of Sick Podcast.
The Bruins turned over a significant amount of the lineup, sending what made the Bruins, the Bruins, for the last six years at the very least. What remains is Jeremy Swayman, David Pastrnak, and Charlie McAvoy.
Now, Pastrnak is one of the very few leaders left that the Bruins can rely on. But should they consider shipping out Pastrnak in order to gain assets to rebuild with?
NHL Insider Jimmy Murphy believes so, but only after he's spent some time around the new arrivals.
To start, we don't know what a Pastrnak trade could look like in this market. We can draw from the past when there was a discussion of what kind of value he'd yield before.
Here's an example using the Kings as a template for a trade per Hockey Royalty's Joe Patarino from 2022:
It wouldn't be unreasonable for the Bruins to receive a truckload in return for a franchise star like Pastrnak.
Unless GM Don Sweeney decides to be lazy with this one like he was with Marchand's trade to the Panthers.
Regardless, the ceiling is the limit for a return on Pastrnak, and when the time comes that the Bruins decide to move the 100-point forward, the haul should be good if a trade does occur.
