Former Boston Bruins captain Brad Marchand has recently opened up about the upcoming free agency, and has stunned fans with his statement on it.
It's still a tough sight to see Brad Marchand sporting a Florida Panthers jersey after spending his entire career with the Boston Bruins, but there is no one to thank for that other then Don Sweeney.
Don Sweeney decided to have a fire sale during the NHL trade deadline, and ended up trading the Bruins captain to the Florida Panthers for a conditional first-round pick.
With free agency coming up, there are going to multiple suitors wanting to acquire Brad Marchand if he does become a free agent, and he was previously linked to the Toronto Maple Leafs, which would be a big slap in the face to Boston Bruins fans if he decided to sign there.
Now Marchand has stunned fans with a shocking statement on the upcoming free agency.
Marchand Shocks Fans With Statement On Free Agency
Luke Fox of Sportsnet provided an update on the top 12 free agents, and reported that the former captain of the Boston Bruins isn't even thinking about his next steps in his career following this season.
«I'm not worried about next year at all,» Marchand said on April 1. «In this game, in this league, you need to take every day and enjoy it. You never know when you're going to get an opportunity to be on a team like this again.»
Marchand seems locked in on this season, and it seems like he only has one goal in mind, winning another Stanley Cup.
There is no way that Brad Marchand is going to retire after this season, especially considering he is still producing at an elite level.
The possibility of him returning to Boston isn't 0, but he did reject multiple contract extension offers from the Bruins ahead of the NHL trade deadline, and this is what he previously stated on the possibility of returning:
«I don't know, I guess is how I would respond. I don't know what the future brings in terms of how it plays out in the summertime. I know it didn't come together now. Can things change down the road? Potentially, but that's to be seen.»
Brad Marchand is going to be one of the bigger free agents if he does hit the market, and it'll be interesting to see what happens with him.
