The Boston Bruins haven't been able to recover from the fallout from the Four Nations Face-Off, where they lost Charlie McAvoy to injury.

Since the Four Nations Face-Off tournament finished in February, the Boston Bruins have missed a key piece in the lineup, defenseman Charlie McAvoy.
Without McAvoy, their record would regress to where they are now, post-trade-deadline at 8th in the Atlantic Division. They're now 30-37-9 under Interim Coach Joe Sacco, and McAvoy is just now beginning to skate.
Since the break, they've gon 3-13-3 and would trade core pieces in the lineup like Brad Marchand, Charlie Coyle, Justin Brazeau, Brandon Carlo, and Trent Frederic.
All the while, McAvoy has been nursing complications from a shoulder injury, which resulted in an infection.
The complications would require McAvoy to stay in the hospital for four days to undergo treatment.
Renauld Lavoie of TVA Sports would report that attempting to treat him in order to stay in the lineup would make things worse for the Bruins defenseman.
«The Bruins weren't happy with the way it was handled,» Lavoie said on Wednesday, translated from French. McAvoy told [the U.S. therapists]: «You do what you have to do, I'll play.» Until there was an infection»
No one can pinpoint what caused the injury, but according to Lavioie Team USA would utilize injections in order to treat his torn shoulder.
It's not unreasonable to assume an infection could've been caused by the injections to treat the injury he was suffering from.
According to Elliotte Friedman, the work Team USA did could've made his injury worse.
«I don't know if he was given a needle or shot or something like that, and it got infected (between the moment when he was injured and when he was admitted to the hospital), but it was something along these lines.»

Bruins fans are angry with how the situation was handled, and blame it for their tanking in the NHL standings.
Who can blame them? Obviously, Bill Guerin, who was Team USA's GM has some blame to share in this whole scenario.
McAvoy still has no timeline to return to the ice, and chalks up the experience as one of the scariest ordeals he's been through.
