According to a NHL insider, Mitch Marner may actually not hit the free agent market, and a unexpected turn of events has just surfaced that would not be good for the Boston Bruins.

Many people within the Toronto Maple Leafs organziation, including head coach Craig Berube want the team to re-sign John Tavares, and Mitch Marner, but it's expected that Marner will not be back, and may hit the free agent market in hopes to land a massive contract.
Marner faced a lot of backlash from the Leafs fan base after he reportedly declined a trade during the NHL trade deadline that would have sent him to the Carolina Hurricanes and Mikko Rantanen to the Maple Leafs.
Now NHL insider Darren Dreger of TSN revealed that Marner may actually not hit the open market.

Major Turn Of Events Involving Mitch Marner

Dreger was talking about multiple landing spots for the star forward, and revealed that the Golden Knights may take a strong run to try and acquire the former London Knight.
"That list is short,' said Dreger of potential landing spots for Marner. "Every player, unrestricted free agent wants to go to a low-tax state. So you're looking at the Florida Panthers, Tampa Bay Lightning, Vegas Golden Knights, Nashville Predators, Dallas Stars. That's best case scenario. The team I keep coming back to is the Vegas Golden Knights. They obviously have to move out some money. Maybe they do the old sign-and-trade routine. Maybe Marner is comfortable with that because the Toronto Maple Leafs get something back in return and he's not walking out and leaving them with nothing.
If Marner were to agree to this sign-and-trade, he would not hit the open market, but instead be locked up with the Vegas Golden Knights.
In an ideal world, especially for Don Sweeney, this doesn't happen and the Bruins have a chance at signing him in free agency. Nothing is confirmed but this would be terrible for the Bruins who are looking to retool and be better next year.
