A new development has surfaced involving Bruins defenseman Mason Lohrei, and they need to find a way to get him into the lineup.
After stringing together a bunch of bad games in a row, head coach Marco Sturm saw enough and decided to punish Mason Lohrei.
Lohrei was removed from the lineup, and since then some good things have been happening for the Bruins.
Ever since being removed from the lineup, the Bruins have found a way to win three games in a row.
Going based off their practice lines this morning, it looks like he is going to miss his fourth straight game vs. the New York Islanders tomorrow.
Sturm feels like benching him is going to have a positive outcome, similar to Marat Khusnutdinov and Casey Mittelstadt, but the Bruins need to find a way to insert him back into the lineup.
Lohrei has to be placed back into the lineup
Right now, things are clicking for the Bruins, so it wouldn't make sense to make a change, but once they start to not click, they have to find a way to get Lohrei back in there.
Last season, in 77 games played, Lohrei scored 5 goals and 28 assists for 33 points in his first real full season in the NHL. This season he has been good offensively as well, scoring 1 goal and 5 assists for 6 points in 11 games played.
Lohrei hasn't been perfect, but he isn't a top pairing guy like Bruins Network states, and the Bruins have been using him like he is one.
They have to find a way to have him in the lineup without putting that much pressure on him.
Mason Lohrei had 5G-28A-33PTS in 77GP last year and 1G-5A-6PTS in 11GP this year. He's had some brutal moments defensively, but he's not a top-pair guy and that's probably asking too much of him right now. Have to find a role for your young, high-skill defenseman IMO. #NHLBruins
Even if that means playing him on the third pairing. He is better in the lineup rather then out of it.
