Heading into the 2025-26 season, the Boston Bruins announced they will not name a new captain, but new details may have just leaked who will be the next captain.
The 2024-25 season was a big disappointment for the Boston Bruins, and they will be looking to have a big bounce back season.
Boston is hoping to have a drastic change, and become a playoff contender once again after missing the playoffs for the first time in eight years.
For this to happen, there are a lot of things that would have to go in the Bruins favour, and the biggest thing would be health.
Last season, the Bruins had a bunch of players in and out of their lineup, with the biggest player being Charlie McAvoy.
McAvoy ended up suiting up for a career-low 50 games during the 2024-25 season, scoring just seven goals, with 16 assists.
McAvoy suffered an injury during the 4 Nations Face-Off tournament, and it would end up being season ending for the defenseman.
This off-season, McAvoy has spent time getting himself healthy, as he is their most important piece on the blueline.
Charlie McAvoy to be the Bruins next captain?
According to former NHL defenseman Thomas Hickey, he believes that McAvoy is the most important player on the Bruins entire roster, and because of this, it's caused a lot of speculation that he could be the Bruins next captain.
«You talk about importance to a hockey team the Bruins go as he goes,» Hickey said on NHL Network. «He's got some snarl, he's got some edge. He's a big guy, he's strong, but what stands out the most to me when I watch him play is the confidence. He exudes it all over the ice.»
The Boston Bruins are looking for new leaders after Brad Marchand got traded, and a big part of that is going to fall onto McAvoy's shoulders this upcoming season.
