Leading up to the Tampa Bay Lightning's playoff exit, there was some speculation that Jon Cooper may leave the organization, and the Bruins could be a team really interested in him.
Well on Friday an announcement confirmed his fate with the organization and it wasn't good news for the Boston Bruins.
Jon Cooper parting ways with the Lightning?
A lot of speculation surfaced after the Bolts went down in their playoff series that Cooper may be done with the organization. The two-time Stanley Cup Champion head coach has not been able to make it out of the first-round in three years, and once again was eliminated quickly in five games to the Panthers.
Cooper only has one-year left on his contract, and if the Lightning want to keep him around they are going to have to figure something out. If after his contract is up, he doesn't get re-signed, there is going to be a lot of interest as he is one of the best head coaches in the league.
Jon Cooper and Boston Bruins General Manager Don Sweeney have worked together before, which would have made the fit even better.
The two of them ended up leading Team Canada to the 4 Nations Face-Off championship this season, and they will continue to work together in the future.
Cooper was already named the head coach for Canada's 2026 Olympic team, and Don Sweeney was named the assistant General Manager.
