Some thought it was just a paper transaction, and it was confirmed today.

Matt Poitras was sent down earlier in the season to the American Hockey League, and it did him good.
Since being recalled from the Providence Bruins, the Boston Bruins have placed him in positions that will allow him to succeed in the NHL, and he's been doing exactly that, taking advantage of these opportunities.
Ever since being recalled he has appeared in nine games, and has five points, all being assists.
In total this season, Matt Poitras has appeared in 23 games for the Boston Bruins and has one goal, eight assists for nine points on the year.
Matt Poitras even admitted that the stint in the American Hockey League did him good and allowed him to find his game once again.
