An unexpected turn of events has surfaced involving James Hagens: An official decision has been made
But now it seems like we have a clear answer on whether or not he will play with the Boston Bruins in the NHL, or if he will go back to BC for another year.
Whenever it comes to developing prospects, teams have to take their time with them so that they pan out, and are ready whenever them make it to the NHL.
Even though James Hagens was regarded as the 1st overall pick for a longtime, the Boston Bruins seem to want to take things slow, and make sure he develops properly.
A decision has been made regarding James Hagens
They stated that if he did want to make it to the NHL, he was going to have to fight for a spot on the roster, and nothing would be handed to him.
Following this talk,
Hagens ended up deciding that he would return back to Boston College for another year:
«It was a great talk, a great conversation. It was up to me. And (they said), 'if you come here, you have to make the team.' That's how it is. Nothing's given to you. Everything's earned,» Hagens told Boston Herald's Steve Conroy. «It's just taking it day-by-day, knowing what point you're at. You never want to rush it, so it came down to sitting down and talking to my family, and talking to them and figuring out what the path was for me. But it's just pure excitement to be around this, to be a part of it.»
Don Sweeney stated that there is no need to rush Hagens development, and sending him back for another year will ultimately do him more good, then harm.
Within this extra year, it will give him more time to put on some strength, along with improving his skill set more before making a push to join the Boston Bruins.
«I mean, I still want to be a Bruin really bad,» Hagens said. «But it's just the time frame of it. I think there's no rush. Going back to school, it's a great opportunity, and I'm really grateful that I have that option. It's just making sure that you're taking the opportunity in hand and you're able to do a lot with it.»
