The Boston Bruins should tread lightly when it comes to his return to the lineup, as he's returned to practice in a non-contact jersey, but should he return to the lineup for good?

During the Four Nations Face-Off, defenseman Charlie McAvoy would injure the acromioclavicular (AC) joint, which led to complications due to an infection and a four-day stay in the hospital.
McAvoy is believed to be the Bruins' best defenseman, and in his absence, the team felt the loss.
He's only played 50 games for the Bruins this season, as a top-pairing defenseman, and has scored 23 points (7 goals, 16 assists) and hasn't seen NHL ice since February 8th against the Vegas Golden Knights.
Since he's remained out of the lineup, the Bruins have gone 3-10-3 and is just one of the many issues plaguing the team.
He returned to practice on March 25th and would skate with the team in a non-contact jersey.
The red jersey is a dead giveaway that he's not ready for a return to regular NHL play and with only nine games in the season left, we're wondering if he should be fighting to return to a struggling team.
Head Coach Joe Sacco would address the media following the pregame practice in Anaheim. He was unable to give the media a timetable for McAvoy's return, but assured them he's progressing, which is great news.
«progressing the way he should be right now. He's not pushing himself any more than he has to. When he's available, he'll be in the lineup. When he's ready.»

Instead of rushing McAvoy back into the fold and causing more harm to his recovery, the Bruins should let him return to the lineup even if it means it's starting night on 2025-2026.
With playoffs out of the question, the Bruins need to look at the ramifications of a healthy McAvoy in the lineup. Anytime this season would be too soon, and without purpose.
