The Boston Bruins are currently looking for a new captain of the organization after Don Sweeney ended up trading Brad Marchand during the NHL trade deadline, and now Sweeney has opened up about it a bit.

Over the past couple of years, there was never a doubt on who was going to be the next player to wear the "C" for the Bruins, but now there is a big question mark around that.
There isn't even a 100% chance that the Boston Bruins will be entering the 2025-26 season with a captain in the dressing room.
With the off-season just starting for the Boston Bruins, they have plenty of time to think about who should wear the next "C", and recently Don Sweeney appeared on the "100% Hockey" podcast stating that the team is thinking about who should get it.

Sweeney Speaks On Bruins Next Captain

«We're gonna go through that process, as well, and make that (determination) organizationally whether that's the best decision for us,» Sweeney said on the podcast. «I've described the fact that we need to reestablish what our leadership group is. Obviously, over the course of the last three years, we've had a lot of turnover and I believe it's an organic situation and one that's not forced.»

Zdeno Chara was the Bruins longtime captain, and once he ended up retiring, he passed the torch onto Patrice Bergeron, and the same happened for Marchand when Bergeron called it a career.
The Bruins have always had some veteran leadership during this ear, and they do have multiple candidates that could fit the role still. David Pastrnak and Charlie McAvoy are the clear front-runners for the Bruins, but it's unclear if any of them will get it this season.
«We have some great guys that are looking forward to filling those voids,» Sweeney added. «Peel back a year ago, I thought a lot of this transition was going to happen a year ago with the departure of Patrice. Some of the things guys were going through, we had a difficult time having that galvanized leadership approach to things, and we need to go about getting back to reestablishing that.»

The Bruins will be looking to find a new head coach before they announce a captain, and there are plenty of options they could choose from there as well.
