Boston Bruins to acquire a defenseman before the 2025-26 season: A PTO signing may be in the works
We are now in the part of the off-season where teams are going to start handing out PTO's to players, and the Boston Bruins have been linked to a defenseman who could earn a PTO.
The chances that we see the
Boston Bruins make another major move this off-season is unlikely.
But there is a chance that the Bruins could make some moves that could provide them with some extra depth, and benefit them.
Heading into roster camp, the Bruins could make some moves that would round out their roster before the beginning of the regular season.
A lot of times, this late into the summer, you will see teams invite players out to camp on professional tryout contracts (PTO).
PTO's give players a chance to earn an NHL contract, and it benefits the team because they are normally signed to affordable contracts if they are given one.
Boston Bruins linked to former rivals defenseman
One player that the Boston Bruins might sign to a PTO is defenseman
Travis Dermott.
In 2015,
Dermott was drafted by the Toronto Maple Leafs during the second-round of the NHL Entry Level Draft.
During his time with the Toronto Maple Leafs, the Boston Bruins faced him quite a bit, before he was let go during the 2021-22 season, trading him to the Canucks.
Since being traded, he has played for four different organizations including the Canucks, Coyotes, Oilers, and the Wild.
Having too much depth on the blueline is never a bad thing, especially if he gets signed to an affordable contract.
