Heading into next season, the Boston Bruins have a big decision to make on who is going to take over Brad Marchand's captaincy.

During last season, an era came to an end for the Boston Bruins whenever they shockingly traded Brad Marchand.
Don Sweeney was working on extending Brad Marchand, and talks continued right up until the final minutes of the trade deadline.
Ultimately, the Boston Bruins and Marchand were not able to come to an agreement on a contract, and Brad Marchand was traded to the Florida Panthers.
Boston Bruins fans were not happy with this move, especially after they watched him go on to win a Stanley Cup with the Florida Panthers.
Then, after multiple rumors about the possibility of him returning to Boston in free agency, he ended up agreeing to a six-year contract with the Florida Panthers.

Bruins plans to replace Brad Marchand as captain

The Boston Bruins are currently left without a captain. Entering the year, many believed that David Pastrnak was going to be named his replacement, but a shocking announcement was made regarding it.
The Bruins have announced that they will be heading into the 2025-26 season without a captain.
David Pastrnak, and Charlie McAvoy are currently the team's only assistant captains heading into the new season.
Sturm had some comments regarding the Bruins captaincy:
If you're a Boston Bruin, it's a big deal. If you're not 100% sure, then no, you don't [have to name a captain]. I'm the coach, and I'm not going to say I'm making that decision alone. I don't want to because it's different. Again, it's the Boston Bruins, and it is a big deal. That's something we're going to talk about. We both have to agree that this is the right guy. We will, but I don't know when.
