As the upcoming season approaches, the Boston Bruins face an important decision regarding winger Jake DeBrusk's future with the team.

With his contract set to expire on July 1, 2024, discussions on a potential extension should begin sooner rather than later.

According to an NHL pro scout, DeBrusk's performance will be closely monitored by teams around the league.

If the Bruins enter the season without an extension, it is crucial to establish a mutual understanding with DeBrusk, as he could become a highly sought-after free agent in 2024.

DeBrusk, 26, has recorded two consecutive seasons with 25+ goals, tallying 25 in 77 games during the 2021-22 regular season and 27 in 64 games this past season.

His clutch playoff performances, including four goals and two assists in the Bruins' recent Stanley Cup Playoffs loss to the Florida Panthers, have caught the attention of NHL scouts.

As DeBrusk enters the final year of his two-year, $8 million contract, signed at the 2022 NHL Trade Deadline, the Bruins must navigate their salary cap limitations, with priority given to signing goalie Jeremy Swayman and forward Trent Frederic.

Despite the challenges, establishing open communication between General Manager Don Sweeney and DeBrusk's agent, Rick Valette, is crucial to prevent distractions and ensure a clear path forward.

The Bruins will need to carefully assess DeBrusk's role in the team's future plans throughout the upcoming season.
