Newly appointed GM Stan Bowman was looking to acquire Swayman during last season, and it appears the Oilers could look to engage in talks to acquire the goaltender once again afer a disappointing Stanley Cup Finals that many are blaming on goaltending.
Oilers aren't the only team in on Jeremy Swayman
«They weren't the only ones who had inquired about Swayman, but yes, I was told they poked around,» the source told RG.
While Sweeney and Swayman were engaging in contract talks, teams were ready to take a swing at the netminder, but GM Don Sweeney slammed the door on their face.
«Sweeney consistently said, 'No' or 'Don't bother; we're going to sign him,' and he made it clear how much they valued Swayman,» the source said.
According to the report, the Colorado Avalanche, Seattle Kraken, Carolina Hurricanes and Philadelphia Flyers all checked in on Swayman.
With
Brandon Carlo, Brad Marchand and several other faces being moved at the NHL trade deadline on March 7th, Swayman was the one left behind.
But it wasn't due to a trade falling through, it was due to Don Sweeney being confident in his goaltender at the time.
«Lots of guys were wondering again on Swayman, but the message was clear: the Bruins hadn't lost faith in him,» another source told RG.
Captain
Connor McDavid signalled a message to his GM Stan Bowman that changes must be made, the young star forward isn't confident and did not provide reassurance that he will b. re-signing in Edmonton, a clear issue, but we do not blame him
«We're holding this together, trying to get it over the finish line,» McDavid said at a press conference Thursday when asked if and when he would be signing a contract extension.
«With that being said, ultimately I still need to do what's best for me and my family, and that's who you have to take care of first.»
Swayman's trade protection only kicks in on July 1st, 2026, meaning the Bruins have a lot of time to figure things out.
