Don Sweeney Reportedly Set To Be Fired if He Doesn't Complete This One Off-Season Move
GM Don Sweeney's Boston Bruins have failed to achieve a playoff berth for the first time in nine years.
The lack of consistency in play, along with the firing of Jim Montgomery, has led them down the troubled path they're on. And now, as they start a retool, they will have to consider an organizational need: a center.
NHL Insider Jimmy Murphy of Murphy's Law and Sick Podcast believes that the
Bruins need to pursue a top-six center during free agency, or Don Sweeney is simply wasting the Bruins' time.
Organizationally, what's their biggest, pressing need? Center.
If you don't see them identify the signing of a center and they're swinging for the fence with high-scoring wingers, it's flawed... You're just spinning your tires.
With the kind of cap space the Bruins will have in July, if Don Sweeney cannot find the fix to the center issue in Boston, he should be fired.
Considering how he's been viewed by fans recently, who chanted "Fire Sweeney" in TD Garden, he's lost the trust of the fans.

But the team still entrusts him with the day-to-day operations and management of talent. Seems like it's not working out after nearly a decade with the team, and it took Jarmo Kekalainen hiring & firing Mike Babcock to be removed from the GM position in Columbus.
What will it take for the Bruins to confront what is plaguing them?
The Bruins are 8th in the Atlantic Division, with a record of 30-37-9 with Interim Coach Joe Sacco at the helm.
