Former Boston Bruins winger Pat Maroon announced today before the Chicago Blackhawks game in St. Louis, his hometown he'd be retiring at the end of the 2024-2025 NHL season.
Pat Maroon's NHL story begins in 2007 where he was selected 161st overall in the 6th round of the 2007 Draft, selected by the Philadelphia Flyers. He'd never suit up for them in the NHL, but would begin his career in 2011 with the Anaheim Ducks.
He'd find his way to the Edmonton Oilers organization, where he'd stick around for about 3 seasons and play with the New Jersey Devils as a rental.
it wasn't until 2018-2019 that Maroon became a household name, winning the Stanley Cup with the St. Louis Blues in a seven-game barnburner against the
Boston Bruins.
His iconic chirp against the
Bruins would make waves in the cultural milieu where he'd find his mitt on merchandise made by the
4th Line Goon brand.
Soon after his first cup win, the Tampa Bay Lightning would hire him as an enforcer and he'd win two more cups consecutively with Jon Cooper and the team.
It wouldn't be until the 2023-2024 season he'd arrive in Boston where he'd play 15 games with the Bruins. He'd play 13 playoff games under Jim Montgomery and find a way to contribute 2 points during the season the team would make it to the second round by the Florida Panthers.
While Maroon may not have won a Stanley Cup with the Bruins, he played a vital part in the Bruins team that made it to the second round of the playoffs that year.
He's more than fulfilled his goal of becoming a champion, doing it three times with two teams.
We'll never forget what he's done to contribute to the NHL, including his speeches with the Tampa Bay Lightning, which weren't exactly done sober if we're guessing correctly.
His sense of humor is great.
And he's never been afraid to drop the mitts and help his teammates.
Maroon has played 839 games during his NHL career and scored 320 points (125 G, 195 A) and 1,071 PIMs.
He's left a legacy not many NHL players will leave nowadays.
He'll end his career as a Chicago Blackhawk, where he signed in free agency in July with a one-year, $1.3 million contract.
