Former Bruins Career Most Likely Over
The NHL preseason is in full swing, and teams are beginning to make roster adjustments. One notable development is the potential end of the road for a former top-10 draft pick in the NHL.
It was officially Firday today that Nick Ritchie has been released from his Professional Tryout (PTO) with the Blues.
Ritchie split the 2022-23 season between the Arizona Coyotes and the Calgary Flames, playing in a total of 74 games and accumulating 26 points. Since being selected 10th overall in the 2014 NHL Draft, Ritchie has spent his entire professional career in North America.
In his NHL career, Ritchie has played 481 games and earned 186 points. At 27 years old, he now finds himself in search of a new team and opportunity.
With recent challenges at the NHL level, Nick Ritchie's options going forward may be limited. It appears he has two main paths to consider for his hockey career.
One option is to sign an AHL contract, providing him with a chance to showcase his skills in the American Hockey League while offering veteran leadership. The other option is to explore opportunities in Europe by joining a professional league, aiming to rebuild his value there.
For this season, the AHL seems like the more practical choice, as many European teams have already finalized their rosters for the regular season. Now that Ritchie's tenure with the Blues has officially come to an end, his future in the world of hockey will be closely watched in the coming days.
