The NHL and BetMGM just announced they're extending their partnership, set to be the biggest gambling deal in hockey history. BetMGM CEO Adam Greenblatt said,
"It enables us to enhance the BetMGM product and offer our fans unforgettable experiences built around the game they love." Basically, get ready for even more gambling ads during NHL broadcasts, as BetMGM gets prominent branding in commercials, "Digitally Enhanced Dasherboards," and "Virtual on-ice ads."
NHL VP Jason Jazayeri touted the partnership, aiming for
"unique and compelling fan experiences."
But really, who's excited about that? It's just another move deeper into the world of sports gambling, despite the league's history of opposing it. Gary Bettman's NHL is now a hotbed of gambling ads and partnerships, a far cry from his anti-gambling stance less than a decade ago. Hypocrisy, much?
