Injury: Bruins Defenseman Narrowly Avoids A Horrible Injury In Game Vs Capitals
Boston Bruins defenseman Nikita Zadorov narrowly avoided an injury in Bruins game vs the Washington Capitals.
Nikita Zadorov was feeling good when he first ended up hitting the ice against the Washington Capitals during their final game of the 2024 calendar year but things almost took a terrible turn for the defenseman.
A scary scene took place during Nikita Zadorov's first shift when it was literally cut short after he was hit awkwardly by Tom Wilson, and would end up going down the tunnel just 19 seconds into the game.
It would take him awhile, but eventually Nikita Zadorov would return to the game with 12.1 seconds remaining in the first period, and would go on to finish the game with just 13:38 of ice time in 20 shifts during the Bruins 3-1 loss to the Capitals.
Following the game Nikita Zadorov had revealed that Wilson's skate ended up cutting his ankle and he had to get stitches.
«I felt a cut right away, and I looked there, and I see it's pretty deep,» Zadorov said, per team-provided video. «I could see it between my skate and my shinpad, and then I just sprinted to the bench. And when I figured I could put the weight on my ankle, I felt like I was fine. So, it ended up it was just the skin. I got lucky there pretty much because there's a lot of areas where it could be worse for sure.»
The Boston Bruins are nowhere near getting Hampus Lindholm back, and if they would have lost someone like Zadorov, their season could have taken an ugly turn pretty quick.
The Bruins return to action when they begin their three-game road trip against the New York Rangers at Madison Square Garden on Thursday night.
Puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET for the Original Six matchup.
