The Boston Bruins will need to look into additional help during the trade deadline, especially if they plan on making it to the playoffs. Who could they use in addition to a top-six scorer?
The Boston Bruins are in a precarious spot, as they continue to fight for a playoff spot this season.
Missing the playoffs would look bad, not only for GM Don Sweeney, but President Cam Neely as the B's are usually contenders.
The Bruins have had to rely on depth talent on their blue line, as the bottom pairing at the moment consists of
Jordan Oesterle and
Mason Lohrei.
Hardly, the kind of bottom pairing you'd need to win playoff battles.
With
Charlie McAvoy and
Hampus Lindholm out of the lineup, they will have to hunt for affordable, but reliable free agents to shore up the defense.
In 40 games this season he's scored 16 points ( 2 G, 1 4 A ) and is Kris Letang's partner in Pittsburgh. In addition to being a top-pairing defenseman, he can play the penalty kill, giving the Bruins more options down the road should someone like McAvoy be injured once again.
His cap hit is an affordable $4.025 Million AAV and could be an option on the left side.
The Bruins will need to look into what other teams have available and GM Don Sweeney will have to work his magic in order to give the defense the proper depth needed.
As right now, it looks like it's running on fumes.
