The NHL veteran and former Bruin, Brad Marchand, made his debut with the Florida Panthers Friday night, March 28, yet, due to his contract status, speculations have already begun as to where this left winger will end up playing next year, and we have some insight.
The Five Potential Organization Candidates
To start things off, no matter the destination this vet decides to take, he will be 37-years old by the time he signs a new deal, and that's not something to take lightly, as his next location will most likely be his last.
The one and only, Boston Bruins
Since Brad Marchand's departure from Boston, fans have become outraged. This veteran was with the Bruins for 16 seasons, and although his age being claimed to be a downside of the player, it would only feel right to have this legend retire with his original six organization.
Not only would this benefit
Brad by remaining with his original team, it would benefit the entire franchise, as Marchand served Boston well as their leader off and on the ice.
Toronto Maple Leafs emerge as favorites to acquire Brad Marchand
The unexpected runner up to acquire Marchand? A team that nobody would ever imagine him to join, and I am sure
Auston Matthews is thinking the same thing.
According to Adam Proteau of The Hockey News, it's a large possibility. The Leafs are reportedly 'motivated buyers' for him if he hits the open market.
"The Leafs would be motivated buyers for him, and he'd fill an obvious need for grit and spunk."
Alongside the Maple Leafs being buyers if it comes to
acquiring Marchand, Proteau listed multiple other destinations, ones that would surely be more suitable for the veteran to have a chance at winning another Stanley Cup.
Marchand, MacKinnon, Makar? The 3 M's could bring a wealth of skill level, and bolster the Avalanche's offence if they do not win a Stanley Cup this year.
The Avs are one of the odds-on favorites to win the Cup this season, but if the Panthers repeat as Cup champions, Marchand could choose to play with fellow East-Coast Canadian
Nathan MacKinnon on a Colorado team that will have the cap space to sign him for at least a couple of seasons.
The insider also named the Tampa Bay Lightning and Pittsburgh Penguins as options.
Out of these potential destinations for Marchand, which would you rather see him head to this summer?
