The Chicago Blackhawks, similar to the Boston Bruins have had a pretty underwhelming season this year, and because of that, a former Boston Bruins fan favourite has surfaced as a potential buyout candidate for the organization.
In return, the Detroit Red Wings ended up acquiring a first-round pick in the 2024 NHL Entry Draft from the Boston Bruins which was top-10 protected, along with a 2025 fourth-round pick.
After being eliminated by the Boston Bruins in 7 games, Bertuzzi took an unexpected route when he ended up signing with the Chicago Blackhawks in the off-season.
NHL insider Mark Lazerus of The Athletic has stated that due to the season the Blackhawks are having, they may look to get rid of some players that they brought in for "leadership" roles, and Tyler Bertuzzi was one of those players.
Dave Litman of NHL Trade Rumors wrote -
It's been a disappointing season for Bertuzzi in Chicago, the first of a four-year, $5.5 million AAV free agent deal that he signed last summer. That cap hit actually makes him the highest-paid Blackhawk currently. He has 19 goals and 40 points in 71 games with a career-worst plus/minus rating of -36.
If the Blackhawks do indeed end up buying out Tyler Bertuzzi, do you think the Boston Bruins should be interested in having a reunion with him?
