Nikita Zadorov addressed his conflict he had with Penguins star Evgeni Malkin while sitting on the bench.

Recently Nikita Zadorov has been better at staying out of the penalty box for the Boston Bruins, but during their game on Friday night he was involved in some controversy and took a undisciplined penalty.

Zadorov went five straight games where he did not take a penalty for the Bruins. In the Bruins 2-1 loss to the Penguins at TD Garden, Zadorov found a way to take a penalty while sitting on the bench.

The Russian native while sitting on the bench hit fellow country star Evgeni Malkin with his stick in the back while he was sitting near the Bruins blue line. Malkin turned around and retaliated by swinging his stick at the Bruins bench and would end up hitting Mason Lohrei in the head with his stick.

Malkin initially got a penalty for swinging his stick at the bench, and after reviewing the play, the officials gave Nikita Zadorov a unsportsmanlike conduct.

Following the game Nikita Zadorov was asked about the incident, and if he had any history with the Russian star, but he didn't say too much about it.

Here is what he had to say:

«We're old friends, yeah sure,» Zadorov said. «I'm not going to say more about that.»

According to Zadorov, Joe Sacco didn't talk to him about this unnecessary penalty, but it was clear that Sacco was not thrilled with him for taking a penalty while sitting on the bench.

«We don't need that penalty there,» Sacco said.

Zadorov's penalty could have caused the Penguins to have a 5-on-3 if Malkin didn't retaliate as Tyler Johnson was already being called for a tripping penalty.

Nikita Zadorov now has 50 penalty minutes in 25 games this season and is now tied for the league lead.
