It's clear that the organization still needs some help up front, and they have a good chance to do that with one of the most dynamic free agents still available.
Don Sweeney mentioned that the Boston Bruins want to bring in some more secondary scoring heading into the 2025-26 season, and they have the perfect chance to do just that.
Bruins sign Nikolaj Ehlers?
According to David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period, the Boston Bruins are a team that are in on Winnipeg Jets free agent winger, Nikolaj Ehlers.
The free agent class this year was a very weak one, making Ehlers one of the most coveted forwards, and if the Bruins could land him, it would be game changing.
The bigger names like Brad Marchand, Mitch Marner, and Brock Boeser have already signed, making Ehlers the top free agent remaining according to TFP.
In 69 games with the Jets last season, Ehlers scored 63 points. Not only would he bring offense to the Bruins, but he brings speed and skill, something the Bruins have been lacking.
«He would be a nice addition to the Bruins' power-play, which ranked 29th out of 32 teams with a 15.2 percent success rate in 2024-25,» Nick Goss of NBC Sports Boston wrote.
Adding someone like him to a group that relied heavily on David Pastrnak and Morgan Geekie last season would change things for the Bruins.
The Bruins do not have much cap space left to make a move for Ehlers, especially with rumors suggesting he is going to land an $8 million deal.
But if the Bruins are serious about wanting to be better next year, Don Sweeney has to be in on this.
