Brandon Carlo was traded to the Toronto Maple Leafs by the Boston Bruins on March 7th for forward
Fraser Minten, a conditional first-round pick in the 2026 NHL Draft, and a fourth-round pick in the 2025 NHL Draft.
Maple Leafs acquired Brandon Carlo from Boston just to flip him in a trade?
According to a report from NHL Daily Faceoff's insider Frank Seravalli, there was beliefs that Carlo was offered to the Buffalo Sabres in a deal to acquire forward JJ Peterka.
Peterka was one of the biggest names on the trade block this summer after vocally discussing his displeasure with the Sabres organization.
Which led to the Sabres partnering up for a trade with the Utah Mammoth, who sent forward
Josh Doan and defenseman Michael Kesserling to Buffalo in exchange for Peterka.
But the Mammoth could've gotten better?
Frank Seravalli: "The Maple Leafs I believe tried to chase down JJ Peterka in Buffalo, that's where the Brandon Carlo connection came in as Buffalo was looking for a right shot defensemen"

An interesting decision by the Sabres to choose to not accept the Maple Leafs' trade, of a well-respected NHL defenseman in Brandon Carlo.
They are taking a gamble on acquiring Kesserling and Doan, who have not proven their worth as a top-4 defensemen in the NHL yet.
While the NHL season is only four months away, it will be interesting to see how the trade plays out for both teams, and we will be able to find out a clear winner.
