Leading up to puck drop in game three between the Florida Panthers and Tampa Bay Lightning, head coach Paul Maurice made a major announcement that would affect Brad Marchand and the entire team.
During game two, Florida Panthers captain Aleksander Barkov got rocked by Lightning's Brandon Hagel.
Brandon Hagel was suspended 1 game for his hit on Aleksander Barkov.

Barkov ended up leaving that game with an injury and not returning. His status ahead of game three was up in the air.

Losing Barkov for a game or multiple because of an injury would not have been good for the Florida Panthers.
Barkov drives the team, and is one of the best two-way players in the league since Patrice Bergeron.
On Friday, the Panthers got some really good news when Barkov was present for the teams optional skate, but his status was still in the air.
Ahead of the game, Paul Maurice met with the media, and stated that Barkov was going to take warmups with the team, and then a decision would be made, but stated he should be good to go.
Per HC Paul Maurice, Aleksander Barkov will take warmups and then they'll make a decision. «We think he's good.»
It was later confirmed that Barkov was going to be in the lineup for the Panthers. Losing him could have changed the entire outcome of the series.
Even with Barkov back in the lineup, the Lightning are making their presence felt as they are currently ip 5-1 late in the third period.
