Suspended: NHL Department Of Player Safety Hands Out Huge Suspension To Florida Panthers Defenseman
The day after the play took place, the NHL Player Safety has officially made a decision on Aaron Ekblad's blindside hit on Tampa Bay Lightning's Brandon Hagel ahead of game 5.
After losing game three, the Florida Panthers bounced back and took a 3-1 series lead over their biggest rival in the Tampa Bay Lightning.
The Panthers picked up their first win on home ice, beating the Lightning 4-2 Monday night, and a big reason was when they scored two goals in just 11 seconds to erase a 3-2 lead for the Lightning late into the third period.
Aaron Ekblad was the first one to score for the Panthers in the 11 seconds, and earlier in the period he had a goal that was disallowed due to it being offside.
After throwing a massive, and dirty hit on Brandon Hagel earlier in the game,
Ekblad was involved in a bunch of controversy. The NHL community was pissed off there was no call on the play after he intentially threw his forearm into Hagel's face, causing him to be injured on the play.
Ekblad got away with it, even though it was right in front of an official, and everyone felt like the Panthers were being favourited.
That is not the case though, as the NHL Department of Player Safety ended up handing out a suspension for Ekblad that could change things in this series.
Ekblad has been an ideal piece to the Florida Panthers lineup, and losing him for the next two games could change things in this series.
