Boston Bruins head coach Bruce Cassidy decided to split up the "perfection line" of Brad Marchand, Patrice Bergeron and David Pastrnak on January 1st, after a brief COVID-19 team hiatus.
The Bruins had one of, if not the best, lines in the NHL between the three. The change-up has been beneficial to adding much-needed secondary scoring.
Below are the stats from each top-six forward since January 1st:
The most notable upgrade to the scoring has been the emergence of
Erik Haula and Jake DeBrusk, especially since the NHL Trade Deadline.
Boston's record before January 1st was 14-10-2, for a points percentage of .577. Since the New Year, their record has climbed to 31-11-3 with a .722 points percentage (3rd in the NHL).
Although it was a much smaller sample size before splitting up the top line, it speaks volumes about what this club has accomplished in 45 games since the calendar turned over to 2022.
Cassidy has found a way to balance out the scoring between his top-6 forwards and, most importantly, at even strength, which is absolutely crucial come playoff time.
