Boston Bruins star defenseman Charlie McAvoy has been enjoying the best season of his career so far in 2021-22.
Despite 13 games still to be played this season, the blueliner has already set new career highs across the board in terms of goals (8), assists (41), points (49) and shots (132). McAvoy has also doubled his previous bests in shorthanded points and nearly tripled his production on the power play.
But by reaching the 40-assist mark last night, McAvoy has etched his name alongside some of the B's greatest defensemen of the past decades. As per the NHL Media website, McAvoy became just the fourth Bruins defenseman in the past 25 years to reach the 40-assist milestone.
The 24-year-old follows in the footsteps of Torey Krug (who did it five times between 2015-16 and 2019-20), Zdeno Chara (2011-12) and Hall of Famer Ray Bourque (1998-99).
