According to multiple reports, former Boston Bruins defenseman Derek Forbort has officially signed a new contract extension with the Vancouver Canucks.
Vancouver Canucks General Manager Patrik Allvin announced that the organization has re-signed defenseman Derek Forbort to a one-year, $2 million contract extension.

After the announcement, Allvin made a statement on the signing:
«Bringing Derek back for another season is an important move for our group,» said Allvin. «His strong defensive play and solid work on the penalty kill really helped solidify our back end this past year.
Derek has a strong voice in the room and some impressive leadership qualities, and we will look to him to help our team continue to grow and improve this coming season.»

Forbort only saw 35 games with the Boston Bruins during the 2023-24 season, and didn't really have a place on their blueline anymore.
After the season, Forbort ended up testing the waters in free agency where he would sign a one-year $1.5 million deal in the off-season with the Vancouver Canucks.
During the 2024-25 season, Forbort only appeared in 54 games for the Canucks after taking some time away from the organization due to a family matter, and finished the year with 11 points (2-9-11).
