The hockey community is saddened once again after a recent announcement revealed that a former NHL defenseman has passed away.

The NHL Alumni Association just announced that former Chicago Blackhawks, Philadelphia Flyers, Minnesota North Stars and Detroit Red Wings defenseman John Miszuk has sadly passed away.
Miszuk, 84-years-old, ended up playing in six NHL seasons split between four different organizations in the Blackhawks, Red Wings, Flyers and North Stars from 1963-1970.
After leaving the NHL, Miszuk ended up playing in the WHA, playing full-time for Michigan Stags, Baltimore Blades and the Calgary Cowboys from 1974-77.
During his time playing hockey, he was known for his physical and two-way play. This led to him being a All-Star multiple times in the AHL.

NHL Alumni Association issues a heartfelt statement on the passing

In his 237 appearances in the NHL, Miszuk ended up scoring seven goals, 39 assists for 46 points.
"John Stanley Miszuk, the NHL and WHA defenceman born on September 29, 1940, in Nalibaki (then part of Poland, now Belarus), passed peacefully with family at his side on Sunday, July 27, 2025.

Former NHL hockey player John Miszuk returned to his birthplace in Naliboki, Belarus, more than seven decades after his family was driven out during World War II. After spending part of his childhood in forced labour and refugee camps, Miszuk emigrated to Canada and started his remarkable journey to the NHL.

He is widely known for his NHL career with the Detroit Red Wings, Chicago Black Hawks, Philadelphia Flyers, and Minnesota North Stars between 1963 and 1970, and later for playing in the WHA-including the Michigan Stags/Baltimore Blades and Calgary Cowboys from 1974 to 1977. "
Our deepest condolences are with his family, friends, and anyone affected by this terrible news.
