One of the most significant issues with NHL teams in the past few seasons has been attendance, primarily due to the COVID pandemic.
The league switched to a ''bubble'' for the 2020 postseason, and many arenas stayed empty throughout the following 2020-21 season as well. Not until last season did NHL arenas finally open up to full capacity, and in Canada, not until at least halfway through the season.
Seeing full stadiums again was a sight for sore eyes, as fans in the seats make a noticeable difference to games, even when watching on TV. A recent report shows the top ten highest and lowest attendance percentages from last season; surprisingly, only one ''Original 6'' franchise reached 100%.
