Longtime NHL defenseman, Duncan Keith, announced his retirement earlier this summer after a 17-year career.
It was unclear if three-time Stanley Cup Champion and future Hockey Hall-of-Famer would remain involved in the NHL. According to Edmonton reporter Bob Stauffer, Keith and the Oilers are expected to make a formal announcement soon on the subject.
While no role has been specified, that will become more clear with the announcement that's expected within the next week or two. Stauffer reported that Keith will likely join as an Assistant general manager or as part of the coaching staff, leaning more towards the executive role.
The two-time Norris Trophy winner retired with one year remaining on his contract. The Chicago Blackhawks will have a cap recapture penalty of $5.5 million next season and $1.9 million the season after.
In 1256 career NHL games with the Blackhawks (1,192) and Oilers (64), Keith has recorded 106 goals and 540 assists. Including 91 points in 151 career playoff games.
