Sweeney swung for the fences as he tried to land both John Tavares and Ilya Kovalchuk through free agency, unfortunately he wasn't able to land either.
With no big additions up front, the Bruins will likely head into the season with a second line of Jake DeBrusk, David Krejci and David Backes.
Unless of course Sweeney can pull of a late offseason trade.
Kevin DuPont of the Boston Globe recently explored the possibility of the Bruins trading for Columbus Blue Jackets' forward Artemi Panarin.
Max Pacioretty, Erik Karlsson and Panarin were all expected to be traded this summer with only one year left on their contracts, and Panarin remains the only one that hasn't been moved yet.
DuPont believes it would likely take the Bruins signing Panarin to a long term extension with a likely $8million per season price tag. The B's would also have to send a package the other way which includes Jake DeBrusk and Ryan Donato.
The problem here would be the fact that the Bruins would have to signPanarin, Charlie McAvoy, Brandon Carlo and possibly Zdeno Chara to new contracts next summer.
Would you be willing to make a home run move for Panarin?
