One of the greatest goal scorers of his generation, Esposito had the best season of his career with the Bruins.
It was during the 1970-71 campaign that a 28-year-old Phil Esposito terrorized his opponents, night in and night out.
That year, the Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario native was practically unstoppable. He led the league with 152 points in just 78 games and had an impressive even total of 76 goals and 76 assists.
But on March 11, 1971, it was the Bruins forward's 59th goal that had everyone talking.
On that day, Esposito broke Bobby Hull's record-setting 58-goal campaign. Hull had set the new mark just two years before.
To this day, Espo's 76-goal campaign in 70-71 still has him
in a tie for the fifth most in a single NHL season (tied with Teemu Selanne and Alexander Mogilny).
The only players with more goals in one campaign than Esposito are Wayne Gretzky (twice, 92 and 87), Brett Hull (86) and Mario Lemieux (85).
