Not a play you like to see during a hockey game at any level.
This one comes out of the Swedish Hockey League (SHL) this past weekend, and it's led to a suspension for Thomas Schemitsch of the Malmo Redhawks.
During a game against Orebro, Schemitsch, Schemitsch catches Linus Öberg with a vicious sucker punch at the side of the net. The defenseman was given a game misconduct for the play, which you can watch below:
The Thornhill, Ontario native was later given a three-game suspension for the punch. As per the SHL's Disciplinary Committee:
''Öberg has no opportunity to defend himself against the blow.''
Schemitsch, 26, was selected in the third round (88th overall) by the Florida Panthers in 2015 but has never played in the NHL. He previously spent six seasons with the Springfield Thunderbirds and Cleveland Monsters of the AHL before moving to Sweden.
