Controversy has emerged within the Boston Bruins organization once again, and it may be a bad look on general manager Don Sweeney.
The
Boston Bruins, alongside several other NHL organizations underwent a deep coaching search this offseason for a new bench boss, and Sweeney may have waited far too long.
While prominent names were on the market, teams such as the Philadelphia Flyers and Chicago Blackhawks capitalized early on by signing Rick Tocchet and Jeff Blashill, and it appeared that Sweeney entered panic mode.
The Bruins have been blessed with high-end bench bosses throughout the past few years, including Bruce Cassidy and Jim Montgomery, but they were both ultimately fired due to the on ice performances.
Both coaches went on to coach the Golden Knights (Cassidy) and the Blues (Montgomery) into a playoff position, and it put a permanent fear of a message for free agent coaches to think twice about joining the Boston Bruins organization.
This slimmed their opportunity, and led them to hiring a former player of the organization,
Marco Sturm.
However, new insight has unveiled that the newly hired head coach
Sturm may leave the Boston Bruins organization in a worse position comparatively to the team's former head coaches.
As it has been noted that this new bench boss will be experiencing his first go-around as a head coach at the NHL level.
This may come as extremely concerning as Bruins fans were hoping for an experienced and knowledgeable coach to bring this recently underwhelming team to new dimensions.
Although fans are hopeful, it is uncertain how Sturm's first NHL run will conclude.
