A Major Development Has Surfaced The Boston Bruins Acquiring Sam Bennett In The Off-Season
After the Boston Bruins GM Don Sweeney conducted a major sell-off at the beginning of March, they'll need talent to restock the ranks and Sam Bennett should be a target.
The Boston
Bruins are unlikely to make it into the playoffs this season, as the teardown began on March 7th.
Plays who have seen multiple postseason runs with the team gone in a flash of an eye for prospects, NHL talent and picks.
Who Should GM Don Sweeney target in July?
While Sam Bennett has earned a lot of derision from the Boston Bruins fandom, he could add some skills that the Bruins miss with
Brad Marchand no longer wearing a spoked B.
He's not afraid to get dirty, is a great two-way forward, and has found a home in Florida with the help of GM Bill Zito.
Not only that but he's won a Stanley Cup there, and like any cup-contending team, they're pressed against the salary cap.
Bennett is a UFA at the end of the 2024-2025 NHL season, and with only $8.5 million in salary cap space, he may be a cap casualty for the Panthers as a result.
The team at the moment has several UFAs they'll need to take care of aside from Bennet himself.
David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period believes his next contract will be upwards of $6-7 million AAV and the Bruins could fit him underneath their current cap space if they were to make a move today.
In 66 games for the Panthers this year he's scored 45 points (22 goals, 23 assists) and could be a huge factor in a new look Bruins lineup, should Sweeney be so bold offer him a new deal.
