There was some speculation that the Boston Bruins may have been waiting to see if Pete DeBoer was being fired from his head coaching job in Dallas before hiring a new head coach, but an NHL insider has now cleared the air.
Before officially announcing their head coach on Thursday, there were some people that thought the Bruins may be waiting to see if Pete DeBoer was going to become available:
Starting to get the feeling that while the #NHLBruins have narrowed it down to Marco Sturm, Jay Woodcroft, and Jay Leach, if they don't choose by EOD today, they're waiting on the status of #TexasHockey HC Pete DeBoer.
This was because after being eliminated from the playoffs by the Edmonton Oilers, during his season ending press conference there was a lot of people that thought DeBoer's time with the Stars was coming to an end.
NEWS: Dallas Stars General Manager Jim Nill announced today Pete DeBoer has been relieved of his head coaching duties.
Were The Boston Bruins Interested In DeBoer?
Today, NHL insider Jimmy Murphy ended up claiming that the Boston Bruins were never interested in waiting for DeBoer to be their next head coach.
For those wondering, I'm told by a trusted source that the #NHLBruins never considered waiting on now ex-#TexasHockey head coach Pete DeBoer.
"Sturm was their guy since mid-last week, and it was just ironing out details since then."
The same source told me that Jay Woodcroft was the runner-up.
