A controversial announcement was just made regarding Mitch Marner and the Boston Bruins ahead of free agency

It seems like Mitch Marner is set to explore free agency in the NHL this off-season, and it seems like the Boston Bruins are being urged to stay away from the Toronto Maple Leafs superstar.

Free agency is right around the corner, opening on July 1st, and despite the Boston Bruins being linked to Mitch Marner, they may be better off staying away from him.

There are rumours Marner may re-sign with the Leafs, and that a lot of other rebuilding/retooling teams are going to be in on him, but the Bruins shouldn't be one.

Mitch Marner is easily a superstar player in the league during the regular season, but whenever the playoffs come around he disappears.

Marner ended up with just 2 goals in 13 games during the postseason this year, mind you he did have 11 assists, but he wasn't able to show up whenever it mattered most, and that's not someone you want if you're going to pay him big $.

This off-season, the Bruins have the room to make some big moves, with $28 million in cap space, but they need to use it wisely.

Giving Marner $13-14 million a year would not be a smart move by Don Sweeney.

The Boston Bruins ended up going all in on Zadorov, and Lindholm last off-season and it did not pay off how they expected.

It also created other holes on the team, as they were missing a true top-six winger to replace Jake DeBrusk, but didn't have the cap space to make a move.

Don Sweeney needs to be smart this off-season with his moves, and giving nearly half of the available cap space to a player that cannot perform in the playoffs is not a smart move.
