After Don Sweeney knew the Bruins did not have a chance to go on a deep run in the playoffs last year, he decided it was best to sell at the NHL trade deadline.
In return the Boston Bruins got the opportunity to boost their prospect pool, which has been one of the worst in the league over the past couple of years.
The Bruins are not there yet, but they are definitely heading in the right direction with improving their prospect pool.
Over the next two years, the Bruins have four first-round picks, and that should help them out a ton with improving their prospect pool.
Bruins have two of the top 100 prospects in the NHL
Scott Wheeler, a writer for The Athletic has ranked two Boston Bruins prospects in the top 100, being
James Hagens and
Matthew Poitras.
Hagens is going to be a steal for the Boston Bruins and Wheeler sees that, he has him ranked at the No. 8 spot and compared him to Mammoth star
Logan Cooley.
He was the projected No. 1 overall draft pick for the 2025 NHL Draft for a long time, but his stock ended up falling down. The Bruins got an absolute steal getting him at 7th overall.
Poitras on the other hand is a little big further down the list, landing at No. 88. There is a lot of upside to his game, he just needs to take that next step.
He has impressed a lot of people early on in his career, evening making the Bruins starting roster out of camp at just 19-years-old.
Wheeler thinks that Poitras is going to become a middle-six/PP2 forward for Boston, and that seems like a fair assessment.
