With how terrible the Boston Bruins 2024-25 season ended up going, the Bruins are set to make some big changes in the off-season, and one bg free agent question mark is defenseman Parker Wotherspoon.
Boston ended up taking a huge step in the wrong direction this year, and finished the year with a 33-39-10 record and was the bottom team in the Atlantic Division this year.
Now the Boston Bruins are set to make some big moves this off-season to try and retool without entering a full on rebuild.
Boston Bruins have a big decision to make with a defenseman
This off-season, the Boston Bruins have a handful of pending free agents, and defenseman Parker Wotherspoon is one of them.
Boston ended up signing Parker Wotherspoon in the off-season to a one-year $800,000 contract, and is now set to become a unrestricted free agent on July 1st if Don Sweeney does not offer him a contract before than.
Wotherspoon played some big minutes for the Boston Bruins over the past two years, and they should definitely consider keeping him around if he's willing to re-sign at a reasonable price.
If the 27-year-old is looking for a pay raise, the Boston Bruins could look else where to replace him on the blueline.
This season, Wotherspoon ended up appearing in 55 games for the Boston Bruins picking up one goal, seven points, 66 blocks, and 75 hits. During the 2023-24 season he ended up picking up eight points, 84 hits, and was a plus-6 in 41 games.
Keeping an eye on this one is going to be interesting. If the Boston Bruins don't re-sign him, do they look in their system for a defenseman to replace him or do they go out in free agency and try to replace him? Only time will tell.
