Tonight, the Bruins are gearing up to face off against the Toronto Maple Leafs once again, and a statement was made on another Bruins defenseman being benched.
Earlier in the season, whenever the Bruins were dealing with some injuries to their defense, they ended up recalling a defenseman from Providence.
Jonathan Aspirot was
recalled and ended up making his NHL debut with the Bruins this season. Since making his debut, he has looked really good and could earn a roster spot over another defenseman.
During their game against the Leafs on Saturday night,
Charlie McAvoy was unavailable for the game due to a personal matter, which opened up a roster spot for
Mason Lohrei to return to the lineup.
Marco Sturm put Mason Lohrei with Jonathan Aspirot, and the two looked really good together.
Because of how good they looked, we could see a defenseman being benched over Aspirot.
When speaking about the lines yesterday, Steve Conroy stated that he would sit Jokiharju over Aspirot, and put him back with Lohrei for another game.
I'd be willing to let the Lohrei-Aspirot pairing go for another game and let Jokiharju sit for one.
Bruins Network stated that this is possible, but he sees the Bruins benching Aspirot and just keeping him as the 7th defenseman.
No issues with Jokiharju sitting either, but figure since he's in year one of a three-year extension they'll probably be keeping Aspirot just as a 7D.
Who do you think should be benched between Jokiharju and Aspirot?
