Boston Bruins GM Don Sweeney signs a top defenseman: Reporter claims it's his best move of the off-season
A recent report has suggested that the Boston Bruins general manager, Don Sweeney, may have made his best move for the organization this offseason by signing a top defenseman.
The Boston Bruins have made their presence known thus far into the offseason, as the organization has already undergone plenty of moves, including re-signing, acquiring new players, and departing with former Bruins.
However, one specific move has been reviewed recently by a reporter, Michael DeRosa of The Hockey News, claiming that the Boston Bruins' best move of the summer so far was signing a top defenseman.
Reporter claims the Boston Bruins' best move of the season was signing defenseman, Mason Lohrei, to a new contract
The Boston Bruins organization's «most notable restricted free agents (RFAs)» of the offseason, Mason Lohrei, was signed to a new contract.
Lohrei signed a two-year, $3.2M average annual value (AAV) deal with the Boston Bruins.
«Getting Lohrei re-signed was a top priority for the Bruins, and this move undoubtedly has the potential to be a very good one for the Bruins.»
Wrote DeRosa.
This top defenseman has shown immense promise within his career thus far. Just last campaign, Lohrei scored five goals, and led the Boston Bruin' defense with 28 assists and 33 points within 77 games.
And although he struggled defensively during the 2024/25 NHL season, Lohrei's offsensive production is extremely encouraging, especially having him on board during the Bruins' ongoing rebuild.
So getting him signed to this deal has been suggested to be a solid move by the Boston Bruins' general manager,
Don Sweeney.
