Boston Bruins risk losing a top goaltender for nothing as the 2025-26 season approaches
With September right around the corner, the beginning of training camp is beginning to get closer and closer.
The Boston Bruins are going to be a team that has many eyes on it during preseason, because of how many players they have that will be competing for a roster spot.
One player that will have a lot of eyes on him is going to be goaltender
Michael DiPietro.
Recently, DiPietro ended up signing a two-year contract during the off-season, even though there were talks that he was going to
part ways with the Boston Bruins in the off-season.
The Boston Bruins are going to have to make a big decision with him, and it won't be easy.
Can DiPietro make the Boston Bruins roster?
Taking a look at DiPietro's season last year with the Providence Bruins in the AHL, he is going to have a real chance of making the Boston Bruins roster out of training camp.
DiPietro had an unreal season, winning the Aldege "Baz" Bastien Memorial Award as the AHL's best goaltender, posting a record of 26-8-05 with a .927 SV%, and a 2.05 GAA.
If the Boston Bruins do intend to send DiPietro down to the minors, they are going to have to place him on waivers.
This could come with a big cost, as if he were to be placed on waivers there is a chance that a team claims him.
Losing DiPietro to waivers would be a massive hit to their goaltending depth, and they would lose him for nothing.
Although he does have a real shot at landing the backup spot with the Boston Bruins.
