The Boston Bruins are expected to have an immense amount of cap space this summer, and after a poor run this NHL 2024/25 season, the organization is looking to turn the page on their disastrous year.

That being said, the Bruins are in need to improve their roster, and with their current cap space, they are capable of acquiring a superstar this summer.
One name that has driven a lot of speculation in Boston is a veteran forward from a division rival, Mitch Marner.
The 27-year old will be hitting Free Agency this offseason, and new insight has been revealed by George Balekji on NESN's 'Boston Has Entered The Chat' podcast, regarding whether or not Bruins fans can expect this Toronto Maple Leafs to come to Boston.
«This is the spot they're in. They're gonna have $20-25 million in cap space to spend this offseason,» George Balekji stated. «We know that Mitch Marner is a big free agent that could hit the open market, but how much does he want in AAV after they just spent a lot on Elias Lindholm? And also the reality of does he hit the open market? Does Toronto figure things out?»

Balekji then continued:
«It's like when a wide receiver is supposed to be a free agent in the NFL. The good players, like a Mitch Marner, they don't hit the open market. If anything, they get traded like we saw happen between Carolina (Hurricanes) and the (Dallas) Stars, and (Montreal Canadiens), of course.»

Balekji undoubtedly made some good points regarding whether or not Marner would test the open market, however, the 27-year old has a lot of options, so there is no confirmation he would prefer a trade over a brand new deal with a team that has a promising future.
