The first major signing the Boston Bruins made during free agency was forward Tanner Jeannot who signed a five-year contract with a $3.4 million cap hit.

Don Sweeney is trying to make the Bruins a harder team to play against, and were willing to pay Jeannot extra to do exactly that.
Jeannot had just 7 goals, 6 assists for 13 points last season, along with 89 penalty minutes and 211 hits. It wasn't the best offensive year for Jeannot, but he made an impact on the ice by playing his style of game, throwing the body, and playing a gritty style for the L.A. Kings.
Because of his toughness, he was a big target for a lot of teams in the off-season, causing the Bruins to pay him quite a bit in order to land him.
During free agency, Don Sweeney made a bunch of signings, but Tanner Jeannot was easily their most notable signing.

Jeannot reveals why he signed with the Boston Bruins

Recently, Tanner Jeannot ended up appearing on the NHL Network, where he revealed why he chose to sign with the Boston Bruins in the off-season:
"Obviously, when I found out the Bruins were a team that was interested in acquiring me, it definitely piqued my interest right away," Jeannot said. "Obviously, growing up watching the teams they had, they kind of embodied the style that I like to try to bring each and every night. I just thought that my style of game and the player I am could really go into an organization like that and have some success and try to help the team win games... So I was super excited to join this organization."

He also stated that having the possibility of playing a bigger role with the Boston Bruins played a big part in him signing with the organization.
"Yeah, I think that was a big part of the decision-making process for me," Jeannot said when asked about having the chance to have more opportunities with the Bruins. "Obviously, I want to win. I want to do all that stuff, but I want to have a big part in it, and I want to be able to help the team as much as I know that I am capable of doing. So, I just felt like my style and just the player that I am can fit in really well in Boston and have a good role on the team there, and just do everything I can to win games. So I'm really excited for the opportunity. I'm just going to bring it all and try to do my very best for such a great organization, so I'm excited."
