Completed trade between the Toronto Maple Leafs and Boston Bruins takes a big turn for the better
Despite the recent signings Don Sweeney made, there is a chance that one young player the Bruins acquired during the NHL trade deadline cracks the Bruins NHL roster.
Following their disappointing 2024-25 season,
the Boston Bruins needed some secondary scoring heading into the next year.
Instead, Don Sweeney surprised everyone by signing only bottom-six players during free agency.
In total, Sweeney ended up signing 10 players, crowding the Boston Bruins bottom-six, and leaving no room for prospects to make the jump to the NHL.
Despite this, one prospect the Boston Bruins ended up acquiring in a trade with the Toronto Maple Leafs may crack the NHL lineup.
He appeared in six games for the Bruins, scoring just one goal, but it's his two-way game that stands out the most.
When speaking about Minten cracking the Boston Bruins lineup next year, this is what Andrew Fantucchio of
Boston Hockey Now had to say:
The focal point of this season for the Bruins is re-establishing their defensive identity, which plays perfectly into the hands of Fraser Minten.
While many of the other young hopefuls will have to rely on their ability on offense to make the team, Minten's strong two-way play makes him a front-runner to earn a roster spot.
The 21-year-old arrived in Boston last season at the trade deadline from the Toronto Maple Leafs as part of the return for Brandon Carlo, and was called up not too long after.
Minten dressed six games for the Bruins down the stretch. Although he recorded only one goal, he showed his acumen for playing in his own zone by anchoring the third line and logging time on the penalty kill. He could very well take on the role once again this year.
Minten has shown some flash similar to
Patrice Bergeron. Although his offensive game might not be all there, he has showed a lot of promise with his two-way game.
